Hailing from Kissimmee, Florida, Jabari Lewis is a young artist working on the opera stage. Jabari was most recently seen at Des Moines Metro Opera, where he performed in Il barbiere di Siviglia and covered roles in both Salome and the world premier of Damien Geter and Lila Palmer’s American Apollo. Jabari holds a Bachelor of Music degree from Florida State University and is currently working on a Master of Music at the University of Michigan.
At the University of Michigan Jabari has performed the roles of Little Victor Farrell in Kevin Puts’ Elizabeth Cree and Gherardo in Gianni Schicchi. He was also a tenor soloist in Beethoven’s Mass in C. During his graduate studies, he has appeared as the tenor soloist in various oratorio works throughout Ann Arbor, including Mozarts’s Coronation Mass and Adolphus Hailstork’s I Will Lift Up Mine Eyes.
During his time at Florida State University, he performed roles such as Don Curzio in Mozart’s Le nozze di Figaro and both The Witch in Hansel and Gretel and Tamino in The Magic Flute in FSU’s Opera Outreach productions. Other roles performed during his undergraduate studies include Fenton in Verdi’s Falstaff (Festival of International Opera Italia) and Don Ramiro in Cinderella (Opera in the Ozarks, outreach).
